Clind’s Teleportation―― which he described as Compression, was something Petra had last experienced about a month ago, and Meili a few days prior.

Petra: [It might be surprising the first time, but there’s no need to be afraid.]

With that, Petra, drawing on her experience, offered the inexperienced Flam some advice.

She worried that without proper warning of what was to come, Flam might panic, but she simply shook her head with a “No,”

Flam: [There is no need to worry, as most surprises cannot surpass those of the young master.]

???: [That guy, even his own Camp treats him like a complete shocker of a human? How crazy is that!?]

Even “Subaru” was astonished by that overly straightforward comment.

However, Petra also knew from Subaru’s memories shared via the Book of the Dead that Reinhard had blown up a building with a single swing of his sword and sent Meili’s sister flying, so she understood Flam’s unusually calm attitude towards the abnormal.

???: [Even if Flam-chan is o~kay, I hope the sleeping Sensei-san doesn’t wake u~p. Little Crimson Scorpion-chan was really panicked the first time Butler-san transported u~s.]

Petra: [That reminds me, is there such a thing as teleportation sickness? When we were in Vollachia, some people were fine with Spica-chan’s Teleportation, but others weren’t.]

Her hair rustling, Meili shrugged, and the little Crimson Scorpion peeked out from inside, raising its pincers as if to imitate its master.

The previous comment reminded Petra of the Teleportation ability of Spica, who had been left behind in the Empire―― whether due to physical constitution, individual strength, or weakness, those who were unable to handle it simply could not. While Petra was on the side of those who could handle it, Garfiel was on the side of those who could not, and would curl up and sulk afterward.

Then, in response to Petra’s question, Clind raised a finger with a “That is interesting. Consideration,”

Clind: [Although the number of times it has been used and the number of people who have tried it are not that many, no one has fallen ill. Reassurance. Strictly speaking, the Authority of Tristitia is not Teleportation, but rather the result of the Compression of the time and distance that would normally be traveled. Abridgment.]

Meili: [I have no idea what that means, no matter how many times I hear i~t.]

“Subaru”: [So, does that mean it’s okay to think of it like King Crimson? No, it’s unclear whether it erases even the effects in between, so maybe it’s different from King Crimson…] [1]

Petra: [There’s no need to worry about getting sick, and it gives us the power to create the precious time we need. Knowing that is good enough for now.]

Petra came to that conclusion, Meili gave a look of bewilderment, and “Subaru” mused over it in his own way.

She could have understood what “Subaru” meant, but she felt it would have been a waste of time and thought to dwell on the contents of his speech. If she had the time, she would like to confirm all the memories and knowledge that had been poured into her mind and become someone who knew everything about Subaru, but――.

Petra: [Clind-niisama, can I ask you something?]

Far from fulfilling that desire, the time spent on it would have been a waste, and so Petra prompted Clind.

The lens of his monocle glistened, and Clind nodded, “Yes. Timely.” Considering the phenomenon he was preparing to bring about, his attitude was reassuringly calm.

Then, while Petra was admiring that, Meili tugged on her sleeve with a “Hey,”

Meili: [Petra-chan, about the compensation we were talking about earlie~r…]

Petra: [――. It’s okay, Clind-niisama said it was good.]

Meili: [That’s not what I mea~nt… I don’t know the reason myself, but if you have to lose something, Petra-chan, then I don’t like i~t.]

Petra: [Lose something…]

Meili seemed overwhelmed by her emotions, and Petra blinked in surprise at her words.

Her friend’s frank concern along with Clind’s assessment of the compensation she had offered―― the emotions that flooded Petra’s heart at that moment were intensely complex and profound.

With that, Petra smiled at Meili and,

Petra: [Thank you, Meili-chan. But really, I’ll be fine.]

Meili: […If that’s a lie, then you’re terri~ble.]

Petra smiled and nodded at the poorly thought-out threat that had been mustered up after some deliberation.

She gently let go of her sleeve and held her hand close to her chest, then looked for “Subaru”. Petra knew his illusory form would not leave her behind, but it was a matter of principle.

When she spotted his translucent form, “Subaru” was gazing out in the distance at the Sand Sea.

“Subaru”: [If I had been a bit more careful, I wouldn’t have caused you so much trouble.]

In the eastern sky―― where the very air cried out in agony, the sky turned a sickening hue, and the sound of the earth being gouged away roared, there the battle between the Sword Saint and the Witch of Envy raged on.

It was a clash between two immensely powerful entities that would determine the fate of the world. Seeing “Subaru’s” frustrated expression, watching as he lamented his own inadequacy, Petra was overcome with sadness.

Worried about his friend, Subaru did not mention the recent exchange between Petra and Clind, showing respect for Petra’s wishes.

In essence, Petra could not hide anything from him, as he existed within her mind; if he wanted to, he could easily reveal all the information she had kept from him.

However, the Imaginary Subaru did not do so. ――Whether this was due to “Subaru’s” decency and thoughtfulness, or his intention to do as she said, or perhaps because Petra’s self-consciousness, affection, and memories were all muddled together, she could not tell.

However, regardless of which it was, this was what Petra thought.

Whether it was out of consideration or because it was what Petra desired, the way “Subaru” behaved was based on how Petra Leyte saw the real Natsuki Subaru.

With that in mind――,

Petra: [Clind-niisama, if you would be so kind.]

Clind: [――Understood. Commendation.]

Still embracing her love for “Subaru”, Petra gave the signal to Clind.

Petra, Meili, and Flam. With Patrasche pulling the dragon carriage, plus the unconscious Garfiel and Ezzo, there were six people and one dragon in total. ――Adding to that “Subaru” and the little Crimson Scorpion, the group, with the help of Clind, began their journey.

To that end, Petra offered the “compensation” to Od Lagna――,

Petra: [――――]

In an instant, in the literal blink of an eye, the world shifted, and the Compression was finished.

When she closed her eyes and opened them again, the scenery had completely changed. The taste of the air on her tongue and skin and the scent of the world that touched her sense of smell had changed dramatically, and Petra realized the Authority had been used.

Petra: [――――]

For a moment, Petra closed her eyes and thought about the reality of running away.

However, she set aside her sentimentality with a momentary prayer, then focused her attention on the task at hand. From this point on, Petra and her companions could not afford even a single misstep.

Indeed, Petra gathered her resolve and――,

???: [Woah!? Wh-what’s going on!? A dragon carriage just appeared out of nowhere!?]

???: [Is, is it Reinhard!? Only he could do something so ridiculous!]

???: [Am I dreaming? Toto! Totooo! Lend me your soft lap!]

???: [Oh, be quiet! What’s all the commotion… Wh-where did you come from!?]

Petra’s enthusiasm was dampened by the noisy and unruly welcome they received at the destination of the Compression.

“Subaru”: [What!? Rom-jii is one thing, but Tonchinkan too!? Tonchinkan! Why are they with him!? How and why!?]

And, the final note to add was that Subaru was the first to respond to the warm welcome, loudly expressing his surprise at such an unexpected turn of events.

△▼△▼△▼△

???: [Petra-chan! Meili! Are you both okay!?]

Petra: [――Hk.]

“Subaru”: [Emilia-tan…!]

As soon as Petra saw that change in expression and Emilia rushing towards them, Petra experienced sweet feelings erupting from within her heart.

Warm, fuzzy, and sentimental feelings filled her chest to the point it tingled, and her head was overflowing with flowery words praising her beauty and cuteness. Those powerful emotions were not just limited to her appearance, but extended to her mannerisms, her way of speaking, and even the sound of her footsteps.

Petra: [Too blatant… hk.]

Petra’s head reeled from the wave of easy-to-understand, intense emotions that washed over her.

Up until now, the biggest influence of the Book of the Dead was undoubtedly the existence of the Imaginary Subaru, but the shock caused by seeing Emilia was just as great.

Frankly speaking, an overdose of Emiliase might have been life-threatening――,

Petra: [Why am I saying such stupid things? I…!]

Suddenly feeling as if half her consciousness were being taken away, Petra frantically grabbed at her collar, nearly losing sight of what was real, and managed to stay grounded in reality.

As expected, the love for Emilia was overflowing in an excessively bold manner.

That in itself made her feel a little jealous, but more than that, although Petra was happy to see Emilia again, it bothered her that her own precious feelings toward Emilia were being pushed aside, and she found that difficult to accept.

That was why, when Emilia found them and ran up to them with tears in her eyes, her face so beautiful it took Petra’s breath away, Petra resisted the urge to think she was EMT and spread her arms wide.

And then――,

Petra: [Emilia-neetama…!]

Emilia: [Nee-tama!?]

With a grand slip of the tongue, she startled Emilia just as they were about to have their emotional reunion.

She narrowly avoided calling her “Emilia-tan” and tried to correct herself, but missed the mark. It was a blunder very uncharacteristic of Petra.

Regardless――,

Emilia: [But, thank goodness… Both of you actually came.]

Petra: [Yes. I am relieved that you are safe, Emilia-neesama.]

Overcome with emotion, Emilia embraced Petra, who replied and returned her embrace.

In contrast to Petra, Meili, who was also being hugged, reacted awkwardly, gasping, “I can’t brea~the…” and timidly wrapped her arms around Emilia’s back.

“Subaru”: [Woah! It’s such a relief to see Emilia-tan safe and sound! Huh? Has she gotten even cuter since I last saw her? She’s got so much potential!]

While he observed Emilia embracing Petra and Meili from various angles, the floating “Subaru” was overwhelmed with emotion. He was getting a bit too excited. But that was understandable.

After all, given the chronology of the Book of the Dead, the last time “Subaru” had seen Emilia was when she was at her lowest point in the Sanctuary.

Back then, Petra had not been as close to Emilia as she was now, so she would not have been able to help her. If even Petra felt regretful about that, then the frustration that “Subaru” experienced up close back then must have been incomparable.

“Subaru”: [Oh! My goodness, Petra! Look! Emilia-tan is walking so energetically!]

Petra: [Yeah, she’s walking with long strides. That’s great.]

“Subaru”: [I’m relieved…! I’m so relieved…!]

Because of that, Petra hesitated to pour cold water on Subaru’s excitement. While responding appropriately to Subaru’s enthusiasm, Petra quietly savored a sense of relief.

Her relief was due to one thing―― upon seeing Emilia, she was no longer afraid.

Petra: [The last thing I saw in the Book of the Dead…]

Trapped in the endless, obsessive shadows that surrounded them in the Sanctuary, Natsuki Subaru was caught in a web of inescapable torment, and in order to escape the Witch, he had resorted to the method of suicide prepared as a form of harassment.

In that final moment, Subaru=Petra saw it. ――The terrifying Witch of Envy had the same face as the person he greatly cherished.

Petra: [――――]

When she tried to think more thoroughly about the reason, it felt like she was trying to grasp something shrouded in mist, and nothing coherent came to mind. Still, the vivid emotions remained seared into her mind.

That was why she was apprehensive about seeing Emilia again. ――No, that was not quite right. To be precise, she was apprehensive that she might not be able to see Emilia in the same way as before.

Petra: [But I’m glad it didn’t end up that way… Although I’m excited in a different way than before.]

Emilia: [Huh? Petra-chan, are you okay?]

Petra: [I’m fine. I’m just happy to see you, Emilia-neesama.]

Petra hid her inner conflict and was genuinely happy to be reunited with Emilia, who smiled with wide eyes. In place of Meili, who continued to be stubborn, the little Crimson Scorpion on her head snapped its pincers, expressing happiness on its master’s behalf.

And then, there was――,

???: [――Just when I thought it was gettin’ lively, you’re here, lass.]

There, a low, husky voice interrupted, and Emilia let out a gasp of surprise.

Emilia had left the door open when she rushed in, and a prominent figure standing there knocked on the door and peered inside.

That figure was――,

Emilia: [Felt-chan’s grandfather!]

Emilia’s eyes widened at the sight of the old man, Rom-jii, who squeezed himself through the doorway. Hearing Emilia’s voice, Rom-jii gave an amused smile and stroked his bald head,

Rom: [The way ya say that makes it sound like ya really think we’re related… Everyone here calls me Rom-jii. But, this is the first chance we’ve had ta talk properly.]

Emilia: [Um, well, I couldn’t talk to you in the castle on the day the Royal Selection began, and when Felt-chan stole my insignia, there was no time to calm down and talk…]

Meili: […You don’t have to worry so much. I understand the circumstances, so it’s oka~y.]

Emilia greeted Rom-jii, and as she responded to his greeting, she seemed to be worried about Meili in her arms. Meili responded with an attitude that was half annoyed and half appreciative of the concern.

The current exchange between the two of them was regarding Emilia’s connections with Rom-jii. ――She was concerned about the fact that Meili’s older sister, Elsa, was involved in the previous incident where Felt had stolen an insignia that qualified Emilia to participate in the Royal Selection from her.

When thinking about it, these three people had quite a strange connection. If “Subaru” were to be included, it would be four people with a strange connection. If Reinhard were to also be included, there would be no end to it.

Rom: […Callin’ ya “lass” seems inappropriate, given yer current position. May I call ya Emilia?]

Emilia: [Yes, that’s fine. Nice to see you again, Rom-jii.]

“Subaru”: [Wow… It feels like a historic moment, these two actually introducing themselves properly.]

Petra: [Don’t be so dramatic.]

As Emilia and Rom-jii shook hands and exchanged pleasantries, Petra found it funny that Subaru would use such a grand word like “historic”.

While there was undoubtedly a sense of poignancy, the way he put it made it sound like he had witnessed the reunion of two people who had not seen each other in over ten years.

But, putting “Subaru’s” excitement aside for now――,

Emilia: [I’ve heard about Felt-chan, too. It must have been quite a difficult time for you and the others, right, Rom-jii?]

Rom: [Hmm, that’s right. We should talk ’bout that. Petra.]

Petra: [Yes. It will probably take a little while for Clind-niisama to return, so I think we can start without him… It is a race against time after all.]

Petra added the last part, and Emilia and Rom-jii nodded deeply at the same time.

Yes, this was a race against time. That was why Petra and the others resorted to using unfair tactics.

――Currently, Petra and the others were gathered at the Royal Residence in the Royal Capital of Lugunica.

Among the Emilia Camp, whose members were scattered and acting independently, Emilia’s position was clear, and if anyone were to become the central rallying point, it could only be her.

With that in mind, Petra hurried to the Royal Capital after meeting up with Rom-jii and the others using Clind’s Compression, but――,

Rom: [It’s shockin’ ta see the state of destruction in the Royal Capital.]

Meili: [It’s been a while since I’ve been to the Royal Capital, but when I last saw it, it wasn’t so ruined, and I don’t think there were any works of art like tha~t.]

Rom-jii spoke with his arms crossed, and Meili, who was looking out the window, joined in.

Unlike the two with prior experience, this was Petra’s first time in the Royal Capital. Fortunately, the memory she had just recalled of the loot house was located in the slums of the Royal Capital, so she was able to compare it with her memories of the Royal Capital from the past, when it was still intact.

Certainly, the Royal Capital in her memory did not have many flashy ice towers, and the Noble District, with its rows of stately houses, was not in such disarray.

Rom: [I never liked that awful place, but I never thought the Noble District’d be completely destroyed like that. I heard that everyone was evacuated, but still, this is outrageous.]

Petra: [Meili-chan also said that Emilia-neesama made those ice towers, right?]

Emilia: [Ah, um, well, there was a reason I did that! Everyone was reaaally in danger, and I couldn’t afford to hold back…!]

Emilia frantically tried to explain the drastic changes to the Royal Capital that could be seen from the Royal Residence, which had barely escaped damage.

Petra found her frantic movements endearing, and worked with Rom-jii to sort out what had happened one thing at a time――,

Petra: [――So, as expected, Al-san did it.]

Emilia: […That’s right. The city was thrown into chaos, all because I couldn’t stop Al.]

Petra: [It’s not your fault, Emilia-neesama. Had you not created those ice towers, the people of the Royal Capital would’ve been in big trouble… that’s why you are E.M.G. (Emilia-tan is seriously a Guardian Angel)!] [2]

Emilia: [Yeah, Petra-chan, thank you… huh? Wait, what did you just say?]

When Emilia blamed herself, Petra shook her head vigorously to deny that she was responsible.

Having heard that Al and Volcanica were involved, if anything, Petra felt responsible herself for the devastation that struck the Royal Capital of Lugunica. She could not help but think that if Al’s schemes had been stopped at their source in the Pleiades Watchtower, none of this would have happened.

Meili: [If you start talking like that, there will be no end to i~t. Each of us got outsmarted by Helmet-san at every ste~p. It’s Helmet-san and his group who were at fault, don’t you thi~nk?]

Rom: [That’s right. It’s good ta reflect on yer shortcomin’s in order ta make up for ’em, but regrettin’ yer lack of ability ain’t productive. It’s an old man’s rule of thumb.]

Emilia: [――. Yeah, you’re both right. Al did something bad, and he’s the one who has to take responsibility for it. We don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves!]

Emilia’s cheeks tightened at Meili and Rom-jii’s words, and she regained her composure. Seeing Emilia’s reaction, Petra let out a small sigh and braced herself.

Just as everyone had said, weakness disguised as reflection was a bad habit. There was always a path forward.

“Subaru”: [Al must think the same way… Otherwise, he wouldn’t have crossed the line to break a Sin Archbishop out of prison. What in the world was he thinking?]

“Subaru” picked up on Petra’s feelings and grimaced at Al’s outrageous behavior in the Royal Capital.

In fact, it was an outrageous act of terrorism to use Volcanica to cause massive damage to the Royal Capital, but that paled in comparison to his real objective―― breaking Gluttony out of prison.

The Sin Archbishop of Gluttony, who held a deep connection to Petra and the others, had been allowed to escape.

Rom: [Just listin’ all the things that man has done is mind-bogglin’. He attacked those connected ta the Royal Candidates ‘n kidnapped one of their Knights. He turned Volcanica, the Divine Dragon ‘n protector of the Kingdom, against ‘em ‘n used the Witch of Envy ta prevent the Sword Saint from takin’ action. Furthermore, he took one of the Royal Candidates hostage ‘n invaded the Royal Capital, where he destroyed half of the Noble District ‘n freed an imprisoned Sin Archbishop.]

“Subaru”: [Damn, isn’t that something? How many years in prison would that get him?]

Petra: [He’d probably get the death penalty a hundred times over…]

Once again, the number and severity of Al’s―― no, of Al and his accomplices’ crimes were extraordinary.

It seemed as if he was determined to commit every evil deed in the world, but Petra believed that this was done not out of sheer recklessness, but rather something premeditated.

Yes, Al had a proper plan, and he was taking the necessary steps to achieve it, which just happened to be a series of crimes that were each close to being the crime of the century.

Meili: [Maybe it would have been better to reconsider a plan that required the involvement of a Sin Archbishop in the first pla~ce?]

Emilia: [There’s also the Witch of Envy, so there’s no excuse…]

To begin with, Petra had no reason to make excuses on his behalf.

Based on the impression given by the Book of the Dead, Subaru considered Al to be someone from his hometown―― someone he did not necessarily dislike, but he clearly went way beyond what was forgivable.

In that regard, it would have been fair to say that this was the shared opinion of everyone gathered here―― no, everyone involved, including those who were not here.

Petra: [Right now, Clind-niisama is going around to gather everyone else and bring Frederica-neesama and the others here. Emilia-neesama, where is Otto-san?]

Emilia: [――Ah! Um, well, about Otto-kun.]

Petra: [That reaction tells me everything. He’s being reckless again.]

Emilia: [Ugh… yeah, that’s right. I’m sorry I couldn’t stop him.]

Slumping herself down, Emilia cast her eyes downward, ashamed of herself. But, Emilia was not the one at fault. If anyone were to be blamed, it would be Otto, and in this case, he was not entirely at fault either.

Among the members of the camp, Otto regularly acted recklessly; Petra, Frederica, and the others always told him he ought to take a break, but this time, that advice was not applicable.

In fact, Otto, who wielded the Divine Protection of the Soul of Language, was far too reliable in this situation.

Petra: [Using insects and birds for reconnaissance and espionage, huh? That Divine Protection sure has a lot of devious uses… but, that means undertaking a lot of labor in return.]

Meili: [Ara~, that’s exactly right. You can tell Hat-oniisan is a worri~er just by looking at him.]

Rom: [I’ve been around for a while, but I ain’t never heard of the Divine Protection of the Soul of Language. The fact that I’ve never heard of such a useful Divine Protection’s gotta be because no one who’s had it has lived long enough for people ta hear ’bout it.]

Meili chuckled, but Petra could not help but agree with Rom-jii’s grim speculation.

It was true that overusing the Divine Protection of the Soul of Language was dangerous to one’s health, and Petra had also witnessed Otto suffering from nosebleeds after using his Divine Protection excessively in the Empire.

That, too, was out of necessity due to the demands of war, where there was no room for half measures.

Emilia: [He was worried about Subaru and the others, but he was especially concerned about Garfiel… he was reaaally determined to do something about it.]

Petra: [“Ottobro asked my amazin’ self to do this, ‘n I messed it up…”. Those two are so much alike.]

Meili: [Petra-chan, that was a surprisingly good impersona~tion!]

Regardless of Emilia and Meili’s surprised reactions, it was easy to imagine Otto and Garfiel wanting to do something reckless in such a situation.

Still in a comatose state, Garfiel had been left in the care of the Royal Capital’s Medical Center, but caution had to be taken to ensure that he would not blame or hurt himself once he regained consciousness.

Petra: [I hope Frufoo-chan will be able to keep Otto-san calm.]

With that, Petra worried about the well-being of the absent Otto.

No matter what sort of insect or animal he attempted to communicate with, Otto himself had to be present to interpret the information gathered. For this reason, Otto was tracking Al’s gang on his own―― or rather, with his long-time partner and beloved dragon, Frufoo.

“Subaru”: [Otto… I’m afraid he’ll mess up at a crucial moment, and I don’t know how much I’ll be able to rely on him.]

Petra: [If Otto-san were to hear that, he’d probably have the angriest face ever.]

Subaru had a tendency to take everything on by himself. Not just Otto, but anyone in the camp would be angry if they were told that; but, Petra thought Otto would be the most frightening.

Nevertheless, it was true that Otto should not bear this burden alone. If Clind could have brought Ram along, they could have shared the burden with the help of her Clairvoyance.

And then, just as she thought that, Petra suddenly remembered.

Petra: [Hey, Emilia-neesama, there’s something I wanted to ask you]

Emilia: [Hm? What is it, Petra-chan?]

Petra: [I don’t know if you’ve noticed, Emilia-neesama, but on the way here, Meili-chan and I suddenly started feeling sick…]

The question Petra had asked related to the events which occurred just after Flam had used the Divine Protection of Mindspeak with her sister Grassis in order to locate Rom-jii and the others, and as they were discussing rushing to the Royal Capital. ――Suddenly, Petra’s entire body broke out in goosebumps, and she was struck by an unsettling feeling within her heart.

Petra was so shocked, she had wondered if it was a side effect of the Book of the Dead, or if Reinhard had lost and the Witch of Envy was coming for her; but, Meili was experiencing the same sensation, so they concluded that it was neither.

Petra: [But, given the situation, right? Flam-chan and Rom-ojiisan weren’t affected, but Meili-chan, Clind-niisama, and I all felt it. In this case, I thought it might not be entirely unrelated to Al-san… Emilia-neesama?] [3]

It was an unusual situation, and even after discussing it with Meili and Clind, they had arrived at no conclusion.

Upon seeing Emilia’s reaction, Petra stopped sharing this potentially sensitive information. Emilia was staring intently with her beautiful amethyst eyes, her cheeks stiffening.

It was clear from her reaction that she understood what was said.

Emilia: […That reaaally creepy feeling, it’s probably the work of the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony.]

“Subaru”: […Did she say… Gluttony?]

Meili: [U~gh, it felt aw~ful.]

Subaru frowned at the mention of a Sin Archbishop, one of their most hated enemies, and Meili stuck out her tongue. Petra also put her hand on her chest, motioning with her eyes, prompting Emilia to continue.

Emilia: [I’m not exactly sure what happened. But Al made Gluttony… Roy, do something, and then I suddenly felt sick and while my vision was spinning…]

Petra: [Al-san and Gluttony both got away?]

Emilia: [Yes, that’s right.]

Emilia’s shoulders slumped dejectedly, as she weakly nodded.

In response to Emilia’s reply, Petra glanced at Rom-jii, and the wise old man in charge of the Felt Camp stroked his head with his large hand and said,

Rom: [When this was just ‘bout Petra ‘n Meili, I was thinkin’ it was just some kinda misunderstandin’, but with Emilia feelin’ the same way on top of that, ‘n Gluttony bein’ involved, I don’t have a good feelin’ ’bout this.]

Petra: [What do we have in common…? We’re all Emilia-neesama’s allies, maybe?]

Meili: [It would be easier to figure out if Fang-oniisan was awake, or if Hat-oniisan wasn’t keeping quiet over there, or if Subaru-oniisan hadn’t been captu~red.]

“Subaru”: [Including the current me, we’re three idiots with bad timing…]

As Petra had predicted, Al was involved, but the fact that Gluttony was also involved made the uncertainty surrounding the unknown attack even more dire. ――Leaving Spica behind in the Empire had begun to feel like a mistake.

Spica, too, despite her many trials and tribulations, was one of the Sin Archbishops of Gluttony――,

Petra: [No, no, I shouldn’t think like that. I’m not the Master.]

What could be done and what could not be done, what would be useful and what would not.

If she were to start to determine a person’s value from that perspective, she would quickly become like Roswaal. Insight could be honed as much as one liked, but it was essential to be cautious to avoid losing one’s humanity.

Rom: [For now, let’s just be aware of Gluttony’s actions. So, accordin’ ta yer Internal Affairs Minister, their destination is…]

Emilia: [――Kararagi, the Grand Mogolade Geyser.]

Rom-jii attempted to change the direction of the conversation to move away from the inconclusive discussion, and Emilia picked up on his words.

That was the final destination of Al and his accomplices, and the circumstances that led to this discovery were――,

Rom: [They took Felt, ‘n she left behind a message for ya guys. I trust Felt completely, but I’m unsure ‘bout ya.]

Emilia: [You mean Otto-kun? I believe in him not just a hundred times, but a million times over.]

Petra: [Emilia-neesama, you’re talking about quantity, but it’s supposed to be a percentage. Still, it sounds cool.]

Emilia’s answer, which was not bound by the concept of percentages, warmed Petra’s heart, while Rom-jii and Meili looked on with wry smiles.

But Emilia answered Rom-jii’s questions thoroughly, which was typical of her.

“Subaru”: […You’re not just cute, you’ve gotten incredibly strong, Emilia-tan.]

Subaru stared at Emilia with a look of wonder.

The fact that this Subaru was from the middle of solving the issues in the Sanctuary made it difficult for him to understand how Emilia had managed to grow and become so amazing.

She wanted to tell him.――That the Emilia of today had been forged in a three-legged race together with Subaru.

Petra: [No, there’s Beatrice-chan too, so it’s a four-legged race… if that’s the logic, then I want to join too, and Garf-san will get sulky if you don’t include him. Meili-chan, what about you?]

Meili: [What are you talking abou~t? It’s kind of scary when you suddenly start talking like Subaru-oniisa~n.]

“Subaru”: [That’s definitely something I would say, but Meili seems to understand it a bit too well, don’t you think?]

With a touch of lingering deep emotion, “Subaru” gave a wry smile at Petra and Meili’s conversation.

Regardless, Rom-jii seemed to be satisfied with Emilia’s answer, and it was shared that Al and his companions’ final destination was indeed the Grand Mogolade Geyser.

To be honest, she did not know what was in that place, but――,

Emilia: [Since we know where they are going, we should be able to get there first with Clind-san’s help.]

Petra: [――. Right. Rom-ojiisan, Tonchinkan-san and the others are…]

Rom: [At present, everyone except the seriously injured shoulda entered the nearby town as instructed. That Clind boy… we can’t overuse his power, ain’t that right? We’ll plan accordingly.]

Rom-jii shrugged his broad shoulders, showing his understanding of Clind’s Authority without asking for further explanation.

Thanks to the “compensation” offered by Petra, the restrictions binding Clind’s Authority, Compression, were lifted. However, depending on the number of times it was to be used and the number of people involved, even that would become unable to completely cover the cost. First, they would need to prepare the field with the fewest number of people, then they would deploy as many people as possible once they had finished assessing the situation.

Thanks to the reckless actions of Otto, a ray of hope appeared in the midst of the preparations.

Furthermore, the more information they gathered about what sort of lineup Al and his party planned to arrive with before reaching their final destination, the better.

That was when――,

???: [――The means to accomplish those goals are already in our hands. Opportunity.]

Hearing that voice, Petra and the others turned around in unison, seeing the person whom they had been waiting for. Clind bowed, taking in their full attention. It was exactly the person they had wanted to talk to.

Emilia’s expression brightened up as she exclaimed, “Clind-san!”, as if he had been waiting for the perfect moment,

Emilia: [Thank you for bringing Petra-chan and the others. Thanks to you, we were able to reunite properly.]

Clind: [I require no thanks. I returned to Mirula on my own accord, and it was Petra’s support that enabled me to meet your expectations. Encouragement. More importantly, my apologies for returning late. Remorse.]

Petra: [I don’t think you are particularly late, but did something happen? Clind-niisama?]

Clind slowly shook his head in apology, and Petra tilted her head in confusion.

Certainly, considering the nature of Compression, it could be said that Clind took some time to arrive at the Royal Residence. However, there must have been a need to explain the situation to the other parties at the pick-up location, so it did not seem like something that would warrant an apology for being late.

Perhaps it was a manifestation of his perfectionism, a trait of someone who was good at his job. Clind looked at Petra while she was thinking this, and said, “No. Negative,”

Clind: [As for the reason for the delay, rather than explaining it in words, it would be best for you all to experience it firsthand, as this would be the quickest and most reliable way to understand. Personal experience.]

“Subaru”: [Firsthand?]

Petra: [Experience?]

Petra and “Subaru” tilted their heads at the unnatural choice of words used to explain his tardiness.

Emilia and Meili seemed to have the same question, and Rom-jii, who was in the most objective position, crossed his arms and watched with interest to see what would happen.

Then, as everyone watched, Clind moved to the side of the room’s entrance,

???: [Ha. Kept you waiting, huh?]

With a dignified presence, a maid with pink hair strode boldly into the room, her brashly arrogant behavior perfectly suited to her―― it was none other than Ram.

The woman Clind had retrieved and rejoined with was wearing a maid outfit for the first time in a while, and Petra, who was also a maid, felt quite nostalgic for the uniform, since it had been a long time since she had been able to wear one.

However――,

Emilia: [Ram, you came, ah…?]

Emilia was about to run up and greet Ram in her maid uniform with a smile, but her words were cut off. She stopped in her tracks, and the hand that had been reaching out to take Ram’s hand was pressed against her own forehead.

Emilia: [Uh, um.]

Emilia let out a confused-sounding voice.

Although she should have been worried about what had suddenly happened, Petra was unable to do so. This was because Petra, like Meili and Emilia, was racked by the same indescribable feeling.

Petra: [This, is――]

The moment Petra saw Ram, she was overcome by a massive, inexplicable, indescribable feeling of turmoil welling up from inside.

Petra felt an unbridled enigmatic feeling similar to the nausea she had described earlier, which had been attributed to Gluttony. However, while she had felt strong malice in that previous instance of discomfort, she did not feel anything of the sort this time.

This was not like that, but rather a different, stronger, more powerful attraction―― seeing Ram in a maid uniform brought out something intense from within.

And the answer to that attraction appeared immediately behind Ram.

It was――,

???: [――Apologies for being late to join you, Emilia-sama.]

With that, a blue-haired maid dressed in the same maid uniform as Ram stood beside her and performed a graceful curtsy.

Of course, it was a familiar face. However, as far as Petra knew, she was not in a position to perform with such perfect manners and wear a maid’s uniform. ――No, that was not right either.

Once again, and again, and again, her perception changed.

No. That was not right. It was absurd to think that she lacked the knowledge and manners of a maid. After all, she was the first person in this world to show Natsuki Subaru and Petra, who still had been a village girl at that time, what it meant to be a proper maid.

That attraction reminded Petra Leyte of this.

Namely, the one who stood there was――,

???: [To get back that person… no, Subaru-kun, Rem will use any means necessary.]

Yes, the Roswaal mansion’s original versatile helpful maid, known for her polite but sharp tongue, Rem, looked straight ahead with her pale-blue eyes as she declared so.

Translation Notes:

[1] King Crimson is a reference to an ability from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 5.

[2] Emilia-tan Maji Guardian Angel (E.M.G) with Guardian Angel being rendered in English.

[3] Clarification: Petra is being very polite with the use of “お爺さん” (Ojiisan), the nuance being different from that of other characters like Meili, who also use Ojiisan. This is also more polite than Subaru’s use of “爺さん” (Jiisan) for Rom in arcs one and three, which has been historically translated to “Old man.”

          1. Both are horrible, there’s no point in ranking which one is more horrible. It’s like ranking which one is worse? Bull shit or horse shit. Both are shit at the end of the day.

            1. you may be right, but it’s always fun to debate to see who is the lesser of two evils. Personally, arc 7 rem was garbage. Arc 2 rem got better and more caring to subaru the more times he saved her, (she even ran alone in the mabeast forest to save him). Arc 7 rem constantly bullied subaru despite saving her several times, and talks shit about him even in this arc

              1. honestly the only things i like about arc 7 rem are:
                1. Some of her dynamics with the vollachian characters were kind of wholesome
                2. She looks hot in her clothes

  1. Rem fans eating good for once in 8 years. Tappei couldn’t stop himself from bringing her back in a possibly failed loop, and the hack is gonna make her “return” again once Subaru escapes Al’s forbidden anal bead spell. Wonder how this will end up when Subaru inevitably resets this entire arc of development.

    1. We’ll see if that ends up happening but rolling back more than 2/3 novels worth of content would be redundant.

      1. well, it’s teppei. The same guy who develops subaru to be smart and badass just to revert to a dumbass, submissive simp after the arc ends

        1. When did this ever happen? Subarus development has been consistent. Hence the ENTIRE point of arc 6. He changed a little due to the childfication, but he was still badass. Lead and powered a whole army, fought todd, fought sphinx. And now it’s arc 9, so again, when did this ever happen!?

            1. i disagree about vollachia sucking, (it has many problems, but I do find a lot of enjoyment) but I 100% agree with you on rem. she was garbage

              1. I don’t know if Vollachia ‘sucked’ but its writing was certainly all over the place. When viewed as a whole it felt like a rush job. Which to be fair to Tappei I don’t think there was a way for it to be anything but a rush job. In a novel centered around character development he was juggling like 5 arcs worth of characters all inside a single arc. There were amazing individual moments, but on the whole the thing was a mess.

That’s a huge problem with re zero. It can go at a snail’s pace one minute and move faster than the speed of light

    2. Tappei couldn’t stop himself from bringing her back in a possibly failed loop, and the hack is gonna make her “return” again once Subaru escapes Al’s forbidden anal bead spell
      fingers crossed

    3. Aldebaran seems to be gunning not only for a destination to make Subaru disappear, but also a precise amount of time. He seems to be the third person with the most knowledge about RbD (after Satella and Echidna), so it’s quite likely that that amount of time is taking into account the creation of a new reset point, meaning there’s a high chance that this “loop” will end in the one try.

      1. that doesn’t really check out with all the previous checkpoints. They were not based on time, but rather were set intelligently (presumably by the witch) to give Subaru enough time to overcome his current life-threatening situation. Checkpoints could range from a week to only a few minutes prior depending on the situation.

Not to mention that it doesn’t make any sense that Al would be trying to wrap things up “before” a checkpoint is set. That would mean he is literally trying to make it possible for Subaru to overwrite everything he’s doing, by ensuring that Subaru’s checkpoint is before he is sealed — which goes completely against the very action of surprising and sealing Subaru, which is precisely for preventing him from using RBD.

    4. Subaru is not going to be able to reset this loop bro I don’t know why people still think this.

      1. copium. And because there’s an off chance he will be able to reset some because we currently don’t know a way to re-seal the half-formed Witch of Envy without erasing Petra’s memories or resetting to before it was a problem. I guess people just think too many bad, potentially irreversible things have occurred already for it not to be reset, and cling onto Tappei once saying that every Arc in Re Zero will involve loops in some way, ignoring that he might have been referring to Al’s looping in Arc 9 or that the loops that do occur will be more like those in Arc 8 – where Subaru does loop some in fighting Sphinx, but the majority of the Arc and it’s consequences still happens. Idk. Those are just my thoughts on it.

        1. *could occur, I cannot edit my own comment, but I meant ‘could occur’ in regards to the potential smaller loops near the end.

    5. >For once in 8 years

Brother, she’s had more pull than Emilia even when in a coma. And the whole tragic element to their relationship with the coma and then amnesia made it effortlessly more compelling than Emilia’s ‘hmmm, I’m just not sure if what I feel for him is really love’ nonsense that arc 5 started.

      1. Only delusional rem fans like you think that. Good thing that Tappei is not a rem fanatic and will only do a Emilia/Satella ending meanwhile cuck rem watches them crying herself to sleep LMAO.

          1. Arc 5 doesn’t have any NTR wtf are you yapping? If it did Subaru would be the one to get cucked by Regulus anyway not Emilia. Are you implying Subaru is a cuck?

    6. >implying

They’ve been eating good since literally the chapter right after she went under with how Subaru reacted to it. They’ve been eating so good that Rem looks like those inflation fetish images over on DeviantArt and is crushing Emilia under her weight.

      1. LMAO. Rem crowd is so dumb, they never fail at making me laugh. Re:Zero is so bad nowadays but at least seeing Remcucks still reading the story even tho it’s pretty obvious where Tappei plans to go is kind of funny.

They were going mad in arc 7-8 now he is giving them false hope just so he can glaze his waifu all the while shitting on Rem again They have stockholm syndrome like Subaru himself. Seeing their reaction will be legendary tho.

        1. Like If i was an only Rem fan who didn’t care about anything else in Re:Zero i would’ve already dropped it back in 2016. No need to keep reading a harem story where you know that the girl you’re rooting for is gonna lose.

If i don’t like the main girl and prefer the other ones in a romcom i’d drop it without hesitation. Better ways to use your time. Like reading a romance story you actually enjoy.

  2. known for her polite but sharp tongue
sharp tongue… oh god. it makes me depressed and ill to my stomach that she shares ANY TRAITS that are similar to ram. Can you imagine having similar qualities to Ram besides? I would regret all of life choices and kill myself

          1. They won’t. They’ll survive unfortunately . Which sucks, especially arc 7 rem and the bullshit that happened… why the fuck did we have to that miserable hell? She’s going to get away with all of it anyway. What was the point of any of it? She REALLY made the vollachia arc lose a lot of enjoyment whenever she was around subaru

              1. yeah. well, what can we do besides pray on their downfall and wish them to broken?

        1. Maybe go reread arcs 2 and 7-8 and you’ll find your answer my friend. Rem is up there in the worst people in the ReZero verse, top 10 material. Only beaten by people like Puck and Roswaal. No archbishops included obviously.

          1. Top 10 material? Whoa, buddy. That’s a but overkill, although considering the atrocious behavior in arcs 7 and 8… YEAH… that was disgusting and deplorable. Honestly, it got so bad that if Madelyn killed her at least once, she would’ve been my favorite character in the vollachia saga. On god. That’s how much I was excited to have rem die

            1. This bitch is definitely double_test on reddit. If erica and kimberly are the same person than holy shit he’s gonna be the most pathetic schizo on earth.

  3. I wonder if rem feels guilt for the amnesiac bullshit. If she doesn’t, then her character is instantly ruined

    1. I agree with you bro. Hope next chapter shows how rem is tormented by the whole ‘Subaru you are not a hero’ trauma.
And would love to also see a glimpse of Rem being embarrassed and excited about Natsumi Schwartz.

    2. I don’t think she feels. It’s like the author has started to forbid characters to show any deep thoughts and discuss their feelings. All relationships have become superficial. When reuniting with Subaru in arcs 7/8, the entire Emilia camp acted like indifferent psychopaths.

      1. aw yes, nothing saying indifferent pyschopath more than running up and hugging eachother in joy.

        1. “You’re so cute,” Emilia said in a low voice when she first saw Subaru, who was a child at the time and had been commanding an army for a long time in that state. Ram showed a disdainful attitude without any joy when they met. As always. He had a normal meeting with Beatrice, I admit. If I’m not mistaken, no other meetings were shown. But no one ever asked him about the time he spent without them. No one and nothing at all. They currently don’t know how he gathered an army, how he commanded it, how he met Vincent. They are not interested. There was also no discussion about why he smelled of miasma. They found out at the beginning of Arc 7.

          1. She said “but he’s so cute” replying to rem when she affirmed that the child was subaru , she did it so nonchalantly not even in an affectionate manner , given the fact that he would’ve been slaughtered by todd if they were a second late so you are right about the indifferent attitude she had was sociopathic,

Because if a mother or any close one find their loved one in that situation their heart would sink and would be very emotionally distressed , not the creepily nonchalant

          2. Read arc 8 chapter 10 ‘No One can Be Alone’ and tell me that isn’t more or less an actual reunion between Subaru and the group besides Beatrice(who, as I noted, dramatically ran up and hugged him earlier), tell me that no emotions are shown there.

            1. Also(cont from above), I think it shouldn’t be underestimated how the entirety of arc 8 is without much of a break, just temporary reprieves, and when they get those reprieves, they prioritize strategizing and figuring out things that are important for combating Calamity – like they have a more solid conversation on Rui/Spica precisely because she’s needed to combat the Great Disaster, so they had to process that conversation prompto.

            2. And by the end of the arc(also Cont), after Priscilla’s death, they do discuss some of those things, even though they’re semi-preoccupied with mourning Priscilla and dealing with the immediate aftermath of the disaster. The group knows exactly why Subaru takes the hits he does from the Pleiades during the opening chapter of arc 9, ei, they had to have discussed some aspects of his time in the Empire, including his gathering of an army.

            3. (Still Cont) –
Frankly, Re Zero isn’t perfect(cough cough, some character designs and the questionable prevelance of characters unironically referred to as ‘loli'(A term which while I know is pretty impossible to escape in Japanese media in general is still really gross)), but by god, you and some others in these comments feel very preoccupied with specifically searching for things you dislike/think are bad. Yeah, maybe we should have gotten a longer conversation at some point on screen between Subaru and the Emilia camp about all the stuff that happened in the Empire, and yeah, maybe character reactions to events can come off as a bit off(not dramatic enough, or too dramatic), but… don’t act like the story has been butchered or something as of recent.

            4. Oh, you’re right, I forgot that chapter. He had a normal reunion with the camp. Back then, only Emilia and Ram didn’t care about him out of his close friends. Beatrice, Garfiel, Otto, and Petra value him more than them. I still wanted to see Subaru talk to the Anastasia and Emilia camps about why Satella was targeting him. They were going to discuss it with him at the beginning of Arc 7. She is literally devil of their world. It’s very important. I was looking forward to that the most in Arc 7. It wasn’t happen.

    3. How can you ruin a devil further? Until the day she repents for everything she did in arc 2, she’ll always be a garbage to me. If Subaru didn’t have low self esteem he would already move away and escape from that crazy bitch for good. He died so many times to save her even tho she didn’t deserve any of that. Despite all his heroic acts Subaru is pınished by Tappei meanwhile people like Rem are rewarded.

      1. Until the day she repents for everything she did in arc 2, she’ll always be a garbage to me.
Bruh, you’re only mentioning arc 2? What about arcs 7 and 8? She was arguably worse there!

          1. Oh no. I 100% agree. I don’t see how she can truly repent for what happened in arc 2
If you add in arcs 7 and 8, then it’s literally impossible lol. She was just an ABOMINATION

    4. I agree with you bro. Hope next chapter shows how rem is tormented by the whole ‘Subaru
      Sorry brother, but it didn’t

  4. I remember justifying so hard on Reddit a few weeks back that the person who was released was Joshua, guess I’m eating shit now….. Still our favorite maid returns! Again!

    1. Kinda thought it was both Rem and Julius. I hope it is true, because Rem seems to be sufficient for causing an impact on Emilia and Julius remembers who he is so yeah, only rem is good enough

    2. No need to justify anything. Teppei is making shit up as he’s going along is all there is to it.

      1. Both suck. One tortured subaru, the other one was a complete bitch and made him die tens maybe even hundreds of times for her stupidity.

        1. The latter is definitely the worse of the two, ngl. At least arc 2 rem assumed he was a bad person. Hell, if it wasn’t for ram, subaru would’ve gotten through to her and realize he wasn’t as evil as she thought while torturing him. How is it that arc 7 rem is aware that subaru is a good person yet STILL makes him miserable

  5. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Though, now we need to see how conflicting sets of memories end up affecting things.

      IF they do

  6. I’m probably the only one who’s upset about this. The most unplanned and senseless thing in the 9th arc. LN sales have been at the bottom since the 7th arc, and the author decided to make a fan service. There is no explanation why Spica doesn’t do what Roy did. There is no explanation why Al didn’t tell everyone that there was such a possibility a long time ago. Now I’m sure that ReZero doesn’t have a clear plan, the author does what he wants. It’s just that at one point, for no good reason, the impossible happened, and the fans are thrilled.

    1. Spica’s Authority seems to have changed (the undead affected by Star Eater disappear from the pool of summonable souls, but not from the memories of the world), and going by what whe know of Al, he’s both quite secretive and quite detached.

Al doesn’t like to form connections. He did form a connection with Priscilla, which he saw as a form of rebellion against his own raison d’être, but her loss returned him to who he was. He doesn’t make friends, he doesn’t use his authority to solve other people’s problems and he just plain doesn’t care about what happens to others. Revealing the inner makings of Gluttony would be a big headache (people would want to know how he knows about it and that must likely touches secrets he hasn’t told even Priscilla) for no real personal gain.

    2. Bro you are wrong. After your reading comment, I can say that as a fact.
Rem was going to return. It was a but obvious thing. We all saw it coming, it was built sence beginning from arc 7.
As for Al knowing stuff, let me ask you. Have you read the whole Arc9 from start? If yes then you must have realised Al knows whhyyyyyyy more that we all might thing. He might even know why Subaru was summoned in the first place. He can literally create black hole and laser beams if he has the mana, what makes you thing he didn’t know about Authorities?
Plus insulting Peak? Why!? Tappei is bringing twist after twist and everyone is having joygasms. But you seems to be thinking a bit tooo much. Just read and enjoy the story of Re:Zero.

    3. Spica probably didn’t know how to use her own authority that way, maybe it can’t even do that anymore.
Al has been shown to not intervene too much in peoples lives, except for Priscilla, he wasn’t a bad guy, but he wasn’t some hero. Why would he tell them? How would he explain how he knew?
Think a bit harder before saying Tappei is a bad writer, but you just couldn’t wait to be a hater instead of pointing it out normally and moving on.

    4. 1) I’m replying to everyone who answered earlier. In the last Spica side story, she thought she had some abilities left over from her previous life. She said she was disgusted to use them. She has shown multiple times that she can use the powers of those her brothers ate. It’s crazy that she can’t spit out a name and memories now, but she could before. Al has hinted at his authority many times throughout the main story and in various side stories. Sometimes he even directly told someone about it. Priscilla knew exactly about his authority from their first meeting. She also once found out that Al was in love with Satella. Al could have erased that moment, but he didn’t care that Priscilla found out. He’s not very secretive.

    5. 2) Al feels guilty towards Petra and Yae. Al hopes that Felt will be happy. Al cared about Schulte. Al hates the Cult for their crimes. Al is not a bad guy. Revealing the information about Gluttony will strengthen Priscilla’s position in the Royal Selection. It will not increase suspicion towards him. Subaru is much more suspicious in the eyes of others, and he is more secretive than Al. Also, in Arc 6, Ram thought that if Gluttony could return what he ate, then Lye would do it. She expected this, but came to the conclusion that they can’t. Because Lye died and didn’t tell. It was also established in this arc that what was eaten is digested after a few hours.

      1. Also, in Arc 6, Ram thought that if Gluttony could return what he ate, then Lye would do it. She expected this, but came to the conclusion that they can’t. Because Lye died and didn’t tell. It was also established in this arc that what was eaten is digested after a few hours.
Holy shit… i completely forgot about that

    6. 3) Yes, Rem would come back one day. But everyone expected that all three Gluttony Archbishops would die, and then their victims would be restored. Or Subaru, when they all died, would gain the Authority of Gluttony, and with it, he would heal the victims. Insulting the peak? My opinion does not have to coincide with yours. For me, Arc 4 is the peak. I also liked Arcs 3 and 6. 7, 8, and 9 are the three worst arcs for me. Drama and character development were sacrificed for action. Logic killed itself after no one asked Subaru about teleports and destroying Chaosflame. Logic is still dead. Al declared war on the world when he could have convinced Subaru to go straight to the destination instead of the Watchtower.

      1. This story is cheap plot driven narrative and plot driven stories are always half assed, that’s why it warps the personality and bend and twist logic over and over, this story has always been specially bad with this warping since the very beginning so you are right about that .

        1. Re Zero is awful now, it’s been like this after arc 6. It’s all been a downhill since then and i’ve been telling this for years now. Actually it showed the first signs off quality drop in arc 5 but at least that arc was still readable. Nowadays it’s full of asspulls, contrivances, conveniences, plot armors, terrible pacing etc.

          1. not to mention poor pacing. the only thing that was valuable about this chapter is rem getting her memories back

      2. How? How would Al convince Subaru to travel halfway across the world to a place that has nothing to do with his grief over Priscilla? Al chose the watchtower because A: he had a reasonable excuse to go there with Subaru(Priscilla’s Book of the Dead) and B: a lot of things in the tower, like the books of the dead and Volcanica, are incredibly key resources for his plan. Yes, theoretically if Al somehow convinced Subaru(and his allies, as Subaru would discuss it with them)to go visit this massive hole in the world with him and just pushed him off it’d be a lot easier and he wouldn’t need those resources to be able to fight back against the world he’s declared war on, but… that theoretical is easier said then done. The tower gave him the tools and reason he needed.

        1. Al has already died over 175,000 times in Arc 9. This is only the middle of the arc. His death count could go up a lot. He’s been in cycles for over half a year. Al knows Subaru much better than Subaru knows himself. We’ve been shown that clearly. He really couldn’t find a way to convince Subaru? He beat the strongest man in the world. Is that easier? He convinced Roswaal, who has 400 years of experience in politics, to not interfere. A possible option would be to promise Subaru that he could send a message to his parents there. To put the same soul-burning seal on him that he put on Roy. To blackmail him with threats for his friends. To say that Subaru’s death would save the world. That might even be true. He didn’t even try do anything less complicated.

          1. Al has a limited window for his resets. He does plan but his combat and strategy is largely improvisal as he goes along. He also has purposefully trained himself to bruteforce abuse his authority to incrementally progress, he is not concerned whatsoever with limiting his deaths or amount of deaths. It may be that he just went with the first plan he thought of that had the bones of something that could work than the most death efficient one.

Remember, he hopelessly fought Reinhard excessively to see if he could win, despite having a trumpcard with Heinkel at the very start. He more or less has some ideas/contingency for how to deal with all the heavy hitters.

            1. When we figured out that Satella sets the reset points for Subaru during a Todd face off, she reset him further back than his reset point at that point in time so he could outwit Todd. The moment Suburau dies having become aware of Al as an enemy (with Satela taking him back to moment he could change the outcome), AL who cannot exceed his limit and magically reset to a most optimal point is screwed. So the moment he Pokémon balls Subaru has to be a surprise and be flawless.

With that in mind any point of engagement with Subaru is incredibly risky, if he knows him best then maybe playing on his sympathy was just the best intuitive choice instead playing a dialogue rpg with him.

Plus he has a self imposed no-kill anyone rule that could be incredibly difficult to navigate.

              1. Priscilla’s book was a believeable ploy to ensnare Sub, but also one optimally calculated to limit his party composition to be more favorable to his surprise attack. The party composition and moving Subaru as far as possible from help is the most important aspect of the ploy.

It would have been very difficult to not have Emilia tag along, or trigger Otto’s cunning (dont forget the repaired gospel from Arc 5 which could be a factor), Roswals perspiscasity, Ram’s competence if accompanying.

          2. In these other scenarios, he would still have to go through convoluted ways to optimize who is with Subaru and brute force the situation with uncountable deaths. If he had to die in the hundreds to convince just Roswal for this route, then Roswal will casually not be an unassailable factor if he tricks Subaru another way?

Possibly he choose this approach for unstated logical reasons. Maybe Satela helps reset Subaru the moment curse marks get applied or maybe she would be an unacceptable unknown risk the second he makes a direct move on Subaru. Given the limits of his short term quicksaves. Blackmailing Subaru directly is by far the dumbest possible approach and revealing or misleading with sudden information would make him extremely suspicious if not to Subaru, then to his companions.

          3. I think that Al didn’t try to detain Reinhardt. Al tried to detain Satella. If Al had kept Reinhardt talking from the start, Reinhardt wouldn’t have lost both his hands. Right now, 1% of her power is available to Satella while she is imprisoned. If Reinhard is not weakened, then he defeats her in a few seconds. After some time, she recovers, and then teleports her magic to another place. While Satella is passionate about the fight, she doesn’t bother Al. Actually, I just realized. Echidna taught Al incredible magic. That is, she assumed that Al would subjugate Volcanica. That is, she is the author of the stupid plan, not Al. I’m thinking more and more that she’s leading Al to defeat, and actually she wants to help Subaru.

    7. spica doesnt do that because she held it as safeline from subaru, which shes scared of. Al didnt said nor did anything that helps subaru figuring out his powers, since his role is to lick him up. the author had writen the whole plot of all arcs 10+ years ago already.

      1. What? There’s no hint of anything like that. You made that up about Spica. Knowing about Gluttony wouldn’t help Subaru figure out Al’s powers. Al said he repeated that many times when he blocked Arakiya’s attack at the beginning of Arc 7. Subaru was standing right next to him. Al doesn’t make much effort to keep Subaru from knowing anything. Tappei claimed that Subaru wouldn’t leave Lugunica. His plans could change.

    1. I cri because of how shit and annoying rem is. Yet we should accept her torture and how she passionately cleaned her torture weapon as an endearing thing according to teppei. He’ll never make me like rem. She’s objectively a bad human being, nearly on par with Puck.

      1. i don’t think she’s nowhere NEAR as Puck, but with arcs 7 and 8, she’s definitely a piece of shit. I REALLY hate how a MASSIVE part of her character is her torturing subaru and just getting away with it like it’s no big deal. It makes subaru feels like he’s less valuable than a human since he gets abused constantly by the people around and is treated as a comedy act or something we need to shrug and move on like it never happened, just because, meanwhile if subaru were to crash out, he’ll be treated like a monster for not bending over and taking everyone’s shit.

        1. It’s like he has to be hold to some bullshit standard where he’s not allowed to be flawed or he’ll eaten alive and treated like he burned down a country for fun, meanwhile when characters do worse, “T-they’re not horrible! th-th-they’re g-gg-g-gg-good people despite doing blah blah blah! They did what they did because blah blah blah, so it’s fine!”

          1. Subaru is punished by life for absolutely everything. The plot also punishes him for nothing. There are no consequences for everyone else, no matter what they do.

            1. This was (is) immensely frustrating. I think the most egregious example to date is definitely Madeline. She butchered a town in arc 7 and then because she is a cute character with a tragic backstory by the very end she is all buddy, buddy with the camp.

Also, characters show unreasonable levels of skill and death note levels of reasoning when Subaru isn’t around to save their bacon. When he is around all a sudden a stiff breeze will kill them and Subaru could hold a neon sign saying he can’t die and no one will figure out RBD.

              1. A list of monsters just justified by the plot. Daphne, Satella, Puck, Eugard, Madeline. The first 2 are in the opinion of narration and Subaru, the rest are in the opinion of the whole world. But the author sincerely believes that we should hate Subaru.

              2. Also, characters show unreasonable levels of skill and death note levels of reasoning when Subaru isn’t around to save their bacon. When he is around all a sudden a stiff breeze will kill them and Subaru could hold a neon sign saying he can’t die and no one will figure out RBD.

Yeah, that was convenient that they got heavy plot armor. I guess subaru needed to be tortured by teppei again

              3. She butchered a town in arc 7 and then because she is a cute character with a tragic backstory by the very end she is all buddy, buddy with the camp
Well, arc 7 rem is basically same but on a smaller scale. She torments subaru despite knowing better, but because she’s a tragic and cute character, the reader isn’t supposed to give a shit

            2. which isn’t even frustrating. It’s just… tiring and it has NO significant impact on the plot besides more trauma for subaru

      1. I wonder about that. It appears their mind merge is not complete. Petra can explore his memory at will and recall it, but won’t automatically know of single every event.
Subaru wasn’t especially fond of that memory, so it probably wasn’t the first or second thing on the surface.

    1. She has to but it doesn’t make any fucking sense cause she didn’t even have any reaction towards learning this fact. If it was realistic Petra would already despise Rem for doing all those horrible things to her precious Subaru in arc 2 and 7/8.

      1. i thought sh only had memories of arc 4 subaru. She has his memories of arc 5 and beyond as well?

        1. No she only has arc 4 and before but she was told what happened in arc 7/8 by either Subaru or someone else’s mouth

  8. By the way she talk, it is only that now everybody remember about rem, but she is still amnesiac

    1. Amnesiac Rem never once called “that person” Subaru-kun. This manner of address is reserved for the original her, not even WoE is allowed to use it.

  9. Thank god we got an answer to that question thank god. Given how long Tappei drags out questions I am glad we got this question answered finally.

  10. Weird that people in the comments are so happy for Rem’s return but i have a bitter-sweet feeling related to her…. In loops emilia forgot who subaru was, she still was so sweet to him and everyone but Rem on the other hand just losing her memories made her so rude and vile to subaru… But i also understand that it was because she was very confused because of her memory loss and subaru’s witch miasma and the fact that he was trying to leave spica alone at an unknown place.. i know all if these… I KNOW but still…

    1. The anime cut it out, but in LN she tortured him for hours in that loop. She smiled and joked while she was torturing him. She didn’t even consider him a cultist, she considered him a spy from another camp. The smell served as a permission to satisfy sadistic tendencies. She was so consumed with her bloodlust that she didn’t notice Ram cutting off his leg. She thought Ram wasn’t there until Ram killed him. In the previous loop, she started to torture Subaru without even asking questions, even though he hadn’t done anything suspicious. She is awful person. Ram, Rem, Roswaal, Clind are evil. Puck is almost pure evil. Although I like Roswaal and Ram as characters, I admit that they are bad people. I understand Rem’s fans, but I don’t understand those who think she’s a good person.

      1. >hours
        >smiled and joked about it

Rem haters and lying through their teeth? Say it ain’t so!

Her return was bound to get the more vocal members of the western fan base to lose their minds though, so I can’t say that comments like this are unexpected.

        1. He’s literally saying facts. If you’ve read the novels you would kmow that she tortuted Subaru for a long ass time so it may genuinely took hours. Even Ram was more merciful in comparison lol. You don’t need to be a Rem hater to say these, they’re just common knowledge for anyone who’ve read the novel version of arc 2.

          1. and yet, i blame roswald for it. he was the one who locked a 9 year old rem with a murderer set free. so she could either die or kill the guy. and after that she was damaged in that regard. if you are suspicious, just go for the kill. also, oni unfortunately do not feel anything when they kill, since they derive from mabeasts (daphne and carmilla worked together to spawn them). and subaru witch scent do bring out the worse from people when he loops. it happened with rem, ram, garfield, roswald and so forth.

            1. Where does it say that Daphne and Carmilla created the demons? It says that they were artificially created by some country to fight witches. About the Spirit Eaters, it says that Vollachia created them to fight Carmilla. Rem had to tell Roswaal before doing something like that to Subaru. It is her direct responsibility. Rem did not just kill. Rem tortured for a long time and enjoyed it. Out of fear that she would not get the opportunity to torture, she did not tell her master about her intentions. Who tortured for pleasure in ReZero? Capella, Puck, Rem and Daphne. No one else. Rem is in good company. Rem, in that situation at 9 years old, already decided to torture.

    2. Tsun Rem’s last interaction with him was literally flirting in front of the whole camp, relax.

    3. I also don’t share any enthusiasm for Rem’s awakening, but I expected it. I mean do you not know that there are a lot of Rem fans. There are Rem-stans who can’t see anything wrong with whatever Rem has done.

I was kind of indifferent to Rem in anime and was never able to like her. But after reading novel I really really hate her. For me, Rem is the person who has tortured and hurt Subaru most among his allies, is the reason he started self-harming, and gave Subaru such mental scars that he (even if temporary) stopped believing in people to the point where he couldn’t trust even the kindest person Emilia.

I hate both Rem and Ram. With Roswaal, everyone knows they are evil. But Rem & Ram, they are monsters masquerading as kind people.

      1. Same. They’re straight up evil and i hope that Subaru ditches them from his life for good…

      2. After chapter 35 of arc 9, it seems like Subaru became to like the torture… He regularly wipes the weapon she tortured him with affectionately. It seems like the author truly hates Subaru and doesn’t consider anything against Subaru evil. In Vollachia, she broke his fingers, and Subaru later told her that he enjoyed it when she broke his fingers. My hatred for Rem is nowhere near Puck’s. This is a bitch who is 100 times worse than Rem, but history told us that he’s a great guy. There was no judgment, no redemption, no justification. I absolutely hate that Emilia and Beatrice worship him. Rem’s fans aren’t really the weirdest people. Most of Satella’s fans prove that she’s a good person. It was Satella, not the Witch of Envy, who tried to destroy the world and Chaosflame.

        1. This story is designed to make Subaru torture. The author must have some really weird fetishes.

          1. The last time Tappei answered questions from fans, he said twice that he liked Subaru’s torment and was trying to make him suffer as much as possible. He also said that what he likes most about ReZero is when fans admire Emilia. He previously said that he works as a butcher, and imagines Subaru in place of the meat he cuts.

        2. psst. you do know that puck had a contract with echidna stating “if she dies, you’ll destroy the world”? he didnt really had a choice in that. also, he read minds, so he killed subaru because he knew subaru could save emilia if he died.

          1. 1) Puck can’t read minds. Only superficial intentions. He understood that Subaru didn’t want to harm Emilia, and that’s all. Puck’s mind was damaged after making a contract with Emilia. According to the contract with Echidna, he must kill Subaru to rewrite the world, but he forgot. After her death, he gradually regains his memories. At the time of killing Subaru, he remembers that he must kill one person for some unknown reason. He intentionally interpreted this as the destruction of the world. Then he remembered more in the second trial. He can freely terminate contracts if he wants. He said that he decided to fulfill the contract because he wants to destroy the world. Because no one deserves to live if Emilia is dead.

          2. 2) He also said that he believes the human race deserves a fate worse than death for their short lifespan. Puck is a Nazi. He also humiliated Subaru and tortured him. He found it funny when he tortured him. He blamed a weak ordinary guy for not saving Emilia. Even though he is one of the strongest beings in the world. But he overslept. That time, Emilia was killed by Satella because of Subaru’s actions, but he didn’t know. He thought the Cult killed her.

          3. 3) In Arc 2, Puck intentionally didn’t tell Subaru about the curses when he woke up. He wanted his daughter’s first friend to die. He wanted to be the only important person in her life. He kept her in the forest for 7 years. Even though he wanted her to come out before she lost her memories. When he said goodbye to Beatrice, he promised her that he would come back to her. He didn’t keep his promise. He doesn’t care about his sister. Subaru thought he missed Puck in Vollachia. It upset me. What pisses me off even more is that the author said he wanted to be Puck and that he thinks Subaru is worthless.

  11. Rom-jii: “sooo, i almost precisely pinpointed Alldebaran’s skill, and if i say it now, with everyone present, we can figure out a strategy.
And while i dont know that, Petra/Subaru will figure out the exact way Al returns in time…”

“Nah, not important, im not Valga Cromwell to think that deep”

  12. Rem sucks and i’m pretty sure this bs wasn’t even planned this arc, Tappei’s making shit up as he’s going along. He realized that Re:Zero LN sales were going rock bottom so he had to bring back Rem. But it’s awful because it clearly wasn’t something plannes so it’s all contrives and causes plot holes.

      1. Can’t help it, she’s so annoying and useless. Especially in arcs 7-8 she was getting on my nerves but even before that i never liked her.

        1. Especially in arcs 7-8 she was getting on my nerves
Preach, brother! You need to cook more cause you’re making a 5 five star classic

        1. hey, you desserve it. we need more people to be like you and not be so tolerant and forgiving of amnesiac’s rem behavior

    1. exactly, but a lot of people won’t care because rem’s back, so shallow pandering triumphs over consistent and logical writing

    1. He references everything that bluntly, he basically called out olbart for being a Naruto character the moment he heard shinobi exist in this world

  13. I knew it was coming yet stil my eyes disagreed and bowled when she appeared 🙂
    Finallyyyyyyyyy

  14. Damn can’t yall be happy Rem is back? Ffs been waiting 8 years for this and ppl are seriously mad and calling it a mistake? Rem as a character is one of the biggest reasons ppl like myself got into the story in the first place. After doing this it would be asinine to revert it for any longer than the majority of the next arc. She has so much unexplored potential as a morally tragic character in the position she’s in (the last horned oni for one). Either way, it’s a great day to be a wn reader… She’s back!!!

    1. Let’s just make all the popular waifu the central characters, and send them all to Emilia’s camp without good reasons to please the fans. Why not? Personally, I’ve always found Rem unpleasant as a person and indifferent as a character. I don’t feel glad about her return. I have never thought about her return. If the plot did something like that to a character that I like, then I still would be more angry than pleased.

        1. I imagined it. Sales dropped another 5 times, after which the author resurrected Priscilla and gave her to the Emilia camp. Crusch gave up and went in there too. Echidna entered the camp to be with Subaru. Satella was freed, cured of insanity, and did the same thing. I haven’t forgotten anyone, right? A ready-made idea for a lot of funny fanfiction, actually.

            1. She was supposed to be in Emilia’s camp, but she’s strong and knows a lot. The author took her out of the plot in a strange, illogical way. Otherwise, she would have been in Emilia’s camp. At any time, under any pretext, she can return, and it won’t look out of place. In the final arc, this will happen, I’m sure.

      1. on god, sometimes whenever rem opens her mouth, (especially in fanfic/reaction fics), I want to slice her tongue, knock all of her teeth out of her mouth while I jam her horn through her throat… oh and ram too but without the horn

            1. Maybe because the so called vbd guys are the actual good ones. If trash like Rem are supposed to be the “good guys” then i would rather have people like Regulus, even he was a better person.

              1. Maybe because the so called vbd guys are the actual good ones. If trash like Rem are supposed to be the “good guys” then i would rather have people like Regulus, even he was a better person.

I… wouldn’t go THAT far. The big issue with Rem is that she be doing the most to subaru in the story

              2. Maybe because the so called vbd guys are the actual good ones. If trash like Rem are supposed to be the “good guys” then i would rather have people like Regulus, even he was a better person.

I… wouldn’t go THAT far. The big issue with Rem is that she be doing the most to subaru in the story

              3. because she behaves like ram. If you behave like ram, then you’re a bad person. Arc 2 and 7 rem are the embodiment of that

    2. she has so much unexplored potential as a morally tragic character
no she doesn’t. Most of her character is already done. There’s nothing for her to do other than be subaru’s waifu who gets cucked by the main heroine while smiling like a dumb bitch. Rem is a cliche waifu bait whose sole purpose to get cucked. There’s nothing for her to do.

      1. Rem is a cheap version of Satella. A slavishly devoted, bloodthirsty, crazy yandere to the main character. With or without Rem, it doesn’t matter. Although Emilia is actually even worse as a character. The author killed her personality and turned her into the embodiment of all his sexual fantasies at once. A stupid cute doll who lives in a pink dream. Tappei himself admitted that he did it. Rem exists to be dreamed of by many fans. Emilia exists to be dreamed of by Tappei. If both characters are removed from the plot before the final arc, I will be delighted.

        1. I never thought of it like that befoee but you’re right. Rem is the fetish character for the audience while Emilia is the fetish character of the author. I hope at the final arc that tappei will cuck both and kill them off to troll his fans and Satella will steal Subaru. That’d be the best plot twist ever and make re zero peak fiction.

          1. I really wanted just such an ending. But then I tried to make a complete theory that explains the whole ReZero. I did it. The conclusion about this turned out to be bad. At the moment, Satella is the craziest ReZero character even without WoE. She can’t have a relationship with anyone anymore. After her death, she will become a part of Emilia. Emilia will gain increased strength from this, the ability to resurrect Subaru, and will also begin to have feelings for him. It’s a foregone conclusion by Observers. Subaru may not be with Emilia only in case of final death.

            1. Makes sense. I made similar theories myself. But none of the endings really satisfy me all that much. If all this “mystery” build up is just basic shit like this then it’s disappointing to say the least.

            1. We all hope that Subaru will man up, leave those annoying bitchez and cuck both of them with a better woman that deserve him like Satella or Crusch. Priscilla would be great as well, too bad Tappie killed her so there’s less competition.

        2. If both characters are removed from the plot before the final arc, I will be delighted.
Honestly, both of them make me hope they get slaughtered in the future

      2. Being a cuck fits her well though. Re zero is such a dogshit, it doesn’t even have a single well developed and interesting character other than subaru. Especially all the female characters feel like some fetish bait for a specific subgroup of people with a specific type. This is especially true for the cuck rem.

        1. I disagree about all the female characters. The appearance of Felt, Crusch, Anastasia, Echidna, Theresia and Yorna does not look sexualized to a male audience. These are only the ones I immediately remembered. Is there no well-developed character except Subaru? Well, he’s the main character, got the most screen time, and revealed better than other. Of course, that he is the best worked out.

          1. Theresia? Really? You must have some low ass standards to consider that as a well developed character. Literlaly no one even gives a shit about Theresia. Her episode in s3 was among the least favorite and popular. People just wanted to move on and go back to the main plot. ReZero has no idea what good character writing looks like.

            1. Reread my comment. I have indicated women whose appearance I do not consider sexualized for a male audience. I didn’t say who I thought was a well-developed character. By the way, Theresia was the central character in EX2, EX3 and EX6. If I were to list those who I like as a character, it would be Subaru, Echidna, Beatrice, Aldebaran, Yorna, Priscilla and Ram.

              1. Ram sucks obssessed and one dimensional, only personality trait is being rude. Beatrice is mid and has been stagnant since arc 4, in favt she was more interseting before she became generic cute loli daugther at least she had resemblance of some sort of personality before. Priscilla is a mary sue and was never punished for any of her bullshit that if applied to Subaru would. Subaru and Al are both bordering on being gary stus these last few arcs, especially Al with his plot armor is getting annoying, i liked them before but i changed my mind i think they’re mid now.

              2. 2. Echidna is ok, we need more info on her to make a final assesment tho and Yorna was like the only decent ome among them but then Tappei ruined her character with that bullshit he pulled off im arc 8 regarding how obssessed she became with Eugard and how she forgave essentially someone who’s like a crazy nazi just because he had some sad backstory.

Conclusion: Re:Zero has bad character writing, especially its female cast.

              3. Priscilla? She lost the fight for the throne in Vollachia. She was behind Anastasia in the fight for the throne in Lugunica. She died at 20. Her knight pissed on her grave, according to the whole world. No no, she only won. Subaru? He has a star name, meaning he was special from birth. A Sage Candidate. Yes, he became a super cool unrealistic hero, but he was born and summoned to another world for this. His path still was very hard. VERY. Al? He is fulfilling the goal of his whole life. He has been preparing for this for many years. It would be stupid if he lost at the beginning. Echidna is my favorite character, we both agree that she is a good character. The rest – yeah, maybe you are right.

    3. She has so much unexplored potential as a morally tragic character in the position she’s in
So did Elsa, yet teppei gave her the boot. Why should rem be allowed to explore this “unexplored potential” and not elsa, who had an unexplored plotline with Capella?

  15. Damn, the more I read the comments the more I feel like not many readers like re zero…
    #VolachiaWasGood

    1. It was good, for a side story, but not for the main plot line.
I believe getting Subaru off the stage was the biggest Tappei’s mistake so far. 7-8 arcs had insane amount of subplots and individual dramas of the characters I couldn’t care less for. Almost none of them had anything to do with the main plot, and would only make sense to those who read every EX volume in existence.

In short, the popularity of ReZero is directly proportional to screentime of it’s best character – Subaru.

      1. Indeed. Vollachia is a side quest, fetch quest if you will, not the main plot. That’s why it was boring. None of the events that happened there are important or affect the main plot, minus its ending obviously.

    2. I don’t agree. The main problem is the change of genre. Thriller, detective and drama have been replaced by superhero action. The 2nd problem is the importance of the characters. Early, Subaru’s friends grew up and overcame difficulties with him. Now Subaru has to suffer alone, dying hundreds of times, and Emilia’s camp has become boring, empty and useless. Problem 3 is filler. Gigantic. Of all the characters, only Cecilus will probably important character in final arc. And that’s it. Arc were unnecessary for the main storylines. Problem 4 is terrible introductions. Teleports that happen just because. The crazy idea of two smart leaders to start a civil war right before the apocalypse for the right to die in each other’s place.

      1. All of these are true. I like re zero but i have to admit that it has lots of flaws, especially arc 6 onwards.

      2. the teleport happens just like the checkpoints. so that satella can direct subaru where she want him to be to do what she expect him to do. she has goals for him.

        1. Satella has no plans for Subaru. She is too crazy to plan anything. She did not teleport Subaru on purpose. There is a theory that she was used by the Observers against her will. Or it just happened because the author wanted it.

          1. Yes she is crazy. Have no idea what that guy is talking about, she is not the one who planned any of this. Sounds like a lame excuse to justify the plot convenience.

      1. And people still call this hack a good writer. Re:Zero is mid, even Midshoku Tensei is better.

          1. I agree. Even Mushoku, which i despise, is better than Re:Zero now. At least that one knows that it’s trashy and commits to being trashy, Re:Zero doesn’t even know what it wants to be anymore. Does it want to be a high quality deconstruction of the isekai genre like people were claiming back in 2016 or does it want to be a generic power fantasy harem story like the rest of the isekai genre? I used to like this series when characters acted like humans such as episode 13. But now they all act like anime archetypes, especially the “waifus”. Everything feels so cartoony now and there are no stakes in story cause Tappei for some reason can’t seem to kill or perma damage any character. It’s like your avergae power of friendship type of shounen now.

            1. Everything feels so cartoony now and there are no stakes in story cause Tappei for some reason can’t seem to kill or perma damage any character.
Yeah.i fear no other character will suffer a perma death for the rest of these stories. it’s obvious no one will die in this arc, which makes it a bit underwhelming. I would’ve loved this arc more if we could have more people die and subaru be too late to save them like with priscilla

  16. REM IS BACK!!!

But seriously, why are people arguing so much when we should all be happy. I’m not a big Rem fan but I’m still happy. Rem is a character that has been very important for the development of Subaru’s character, so she IS important and everyone should understand that.

    1. We just don’t like harem trash. Tappwi should just decide to choose one girl already, it’s getting boring with all this baiting. Either Rem will swoop Subaru and steal him from Emilia or Emilia will finally lock in and confess her love so we can finally move on from this boring love triangle drama.

        1. “We don’t like harem trash”. If i did i would be reading any other generic power fantasy isekai. Mushoku Tensei is there for people who want such things, i don’t want Re:Zero to go that route.

    2. with the way arc 7 rem acted, it makes me wish was either in a coma forever, from zero never existed (aka never important to subaru’s character development), or she woke up with her memories intact.

      1. The original plan was to kill her after arc 3’s ending. But Tappei realized how much of a money maker she was so he had to rewrite his story and keep her. That’s why she was put to coma then woke up without memories and now conveniently she remembers all because plot needed it to let Al escape. It’s obvious all of these are unplanned that’s why no plot point involving Rem feels organic now. It’s all so random. It would be better id he killed her like his original plan but money always prevails over storyteling quality which is why it’s nor surprising.

          1. I know but he still changed his plan because of Rem’s popularity. Well idk the exact source for it but i heard that his editor changed Tappei’s mind and convinced him to keep her in the story. Otherwise we all know how much damage it would do to the popularity of the series. Most people would immediately drop it if they learned that Rem is permanently dead.

          1. Garbage writing that should be bashed. Just a cheap way to grab attention of people instead of writing something sensical. What pathetic and shallow bullshit are we dealing with here? An out of where that’s only good because of the character people like and not for the execution

        1. It would be better id he killed her like his original
this. better to do that than to shoehorn her the way that he did. The amnesiac plot (along with the drama like in season 1), not she RANDOMLY gets her memories back, no sufficient buildup, no foreshadowing, no monologue of rem desires her memories or wanting to live without them. NOTHING

        2. but money always prevails over storyteling quality which is why it’s nor surprising.
Unfortunately. Writers like to satisfy people with simple tastes since they’re the ones that make them the most money. Think about it. Most people I’ve seen on youtube just care about rem being back with her memories. They won’t care about HOW she came back or whether if it was well-written.
To them, the destination matters more than the journey.

          1. people probably won’t be analytical about it until WAY later down the line when the tidal wave of hype and nostalgia dies down

            1. Seriously, nostalgia baiting is the shittiest and lowest form of writing. Once you add in the nostalgia factor everyone forgets about the quality of the plot in favor of hype and feels they felt for making them think about older things. It makes people blind to any sort of criticism.

              1. Once you add in the nostalgia factor everyone forgets about the quality of the plot in favor of hype and feels they felt for making them think about older things.

Yep. The cheap tactic that always works. Even now, it’s no different. Typical easy way out whenever writers get desperate to have people invested in your story

              2. It makes people blind to any sort of criticism.
Luckily, more people on here have been shitting on this, rather than what I’ve seen on YouTube

          2. I thought re zero would’ve been among the few anime/manga/novel to be bold enough to not care about things like popularity and money but even tappei couldn’t resist to it. That’s why re zero was better when it was a free webnovel but its quality started to tale a nosedive once it got a LN adaptation and even moreso after its anime. It’s all about pleasing the audiences by doing everything what they wish to happen + including nostalgia and hype now. No one seems to care about if the story makes sense logically or how there’s barely any arcs and time left to unveil the remaining mysteries set up since the start. The author is going to keep milking this franchise forever with adding mpre and more side stories & EX novels it seems.

            1. Damn shame, too. To authors, the mighty dollar means more than writing a story that stays true to itself without on a cheap nostalgia. Hell, I’m into simplistic shit, but even shit like this doesn’t bring me ANY joy

            2. It’s all about pleasing the audiences by doing everything what they wish to happen + including nostalgia and hype now.
Sad to see it happen, but it’s probably going to get worse from here considering the stunt teppei just pulled. He’ll do it in the future and muck up his story even more

            3. one seems to care about if the story makes sense logically
Can you blame them? The more you pick this apart and analyze it, the worse and stupid it gets to the point where you WANT to turn your brain off

              1. Funny how Re:Zero devolved into such a mindless series now to the point one has to tell turn your brain off just so you can get some form of enjoyment out of it or else it would be complete bullshit.

      1. wonder if rem’s self esteem will take a bit of a plummet from her actions as an amnesiac. Probably not. Hell, in the sloth if, her guilt from running away with subaru didn’t stop her from her self esteem from going up over time… which is odd since arc 2, her guilt was what caused her self-esteem to stay at near rock bottom, but whatever. Her actions as an amnesiac probably won’t prevent her self esteem from becoming better unfortunately. Would’ve made her actions towards Subaru hold weight, but then again, when have they ever besides her good ones

  17. The ending scene where rem “returns” is the only scene in the entire chapter, a chapter with like 3 or 4 different scenes mind you, that does not contain a maid insulting/malding about Subaru in some way.
Talking shit about subaru for most of the chapter… what a good way to waste our time

  18. The ending scene where rem “returns” is the only scene in the entire chapter, a chapter with like 3 or 4 different scenes mind you, that does not contain a maid insulting/malding about Subaru in some way.
Hey, tsundere rem, you’re not going to stick up for him. You know, the guy who saved and forgae Louis to make you happy? No? Okay then.

  19. I’m so tired of emilia man. Why is she so boring? Every word coming out of her mouth makes her seem like a clueless bimbo

    1. Be glad she doesn’t talk about it. Characters who start discussing RbD increase the probability of a complete reset of the 9th arc to 100%. Tappei won’t let the camp know about it. He thinks Subaru should suffer alone. We can already be sure that something is going to happen to Petra. But you’re right. It’s stupid.

      1. Characters who start discussing RbD increase the probability of a complete reset of the 9th arc to 100%.
Holy shit. That’s a good point

      2. But you’re right. It’s stupid.
It is stupid, but you know teppei. Gotta torture subaru as much as possible

      3. He thinks Subaru should suffer alone.’
That goes without saying. The more suffering for subaru, the better
